Silhouette animation film from 1954, directed by Lotte Reiniger. Based on the well-known fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm.
Reiniger was the foremost pioneer of this type of stop-motion animation and an influential figure in movie history. It’s strange that Piccolo Film, that released a number of Reiniger’s films, didn’t give her any credit.
The original run time as listed on IMDb is 10 minutes and the reel is well-filled, so this print should be more or less complete. The cover art from the original cardboard box is used as an inlay in a plastic box.
Released by Piccolo Film, Germany.
