Gertie the Dinosaur is an animated cartoon from 1912 drawn by newspaper cartoonist Winsor McCay (famous for his comic strip Little Nemo in Slumberland). In the introduction of the film, we see McCay betting fellow cartoonist George McManus that he ‘can make the dinosaur live again’. After 6 months of hard work, McCay shows his short film at a dinner party.
Print condition is very good, but unfortunately, image quality isn’t. The film is overexposed in many scenes. But all prints we have seen of this Niles release are the same in this respect, and it’s still a charming souvenir of a landmark in animation history.
